The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on August 31 emphasized the importance of freedom of speech and press in establishing a civil society.
'First of all, we need a robust civil society, as any reform must first of all start in the heart and consciousness of each of us. We must live with a conscience of fair laws and move forward with confidence and unity for the country's future.
Today, when developing a developed civil society, it is impossible to imagine it without freedom of speech and the press. All over the world, journalists have fought and will continue to fight for the truth, the right to speak and write on subjects that are of concern to them and society as a whole.
In this regard, I can say with conviction that I have always been on the side of free-thinking journalists and will always maintain this position. At the same time, in the information space, the main criteria should be reliability and objectivity',
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
