Kazakhstan is taking proactive steps to meet the growing global demand for halal foods. Reports indicate that the country is actively creating infrastructure to increase exports of halal products.
According to the chairman of the Committee of Technical Regulation and Metrology of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, Kuanysh Yelkbayev, the world market of halal food is estimated from $1.5bn to $2.2bn, with an optimistic growth potential of $4.1bn in 2028.
Kazakhstan is developing a national halal industry infrastructure based on the best international practices and taking exporters to new markets.
The country has adopted 18 national standards at the State level in Kazakhstan, 11 projects of inter-State GOST standards for CIS countries based on the best international practices.
Besides, Kazakhstan is keen to ensure that halal principles are upheld, including the minimization of the torment of animals before slaughter and the prohibition of slaughtering animals that have passed one-third of the stage of pregnancy.
The country is also keen to regulate the process of slaughtering the bird, and standards for halal tourism include requirements for premises, restaurants, and other services.
