The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan has announced a new project to promote tourism within the country.
Tourists who vacation for four or more days in Kazakhstan may soon be eligible for a cashback of up to 20% of their tour cost.
Cashback depends on the days the tourist rests during the package tour, with compensation ranging from 5% for one day to 20% for four or more days.
The project is designed to support the tourism industry during the "low" season and increase room occupancy.
To receive cashback, tourists who purchased their tour from a marketplace will receive immediate payment upon completion. In contrast, those who bought their tour offline from a travel company can request cashback directly from the state after submitting the necessary documents.
The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan has allocated KZT 480mn to entrepreneurs in the tourism industry to construct/reconstruct tourist and roadside facilities and purchase equipment for ski resorts.
The government aims to increase the number of domestic tourists to 11mn and foreign tourists to 4mn by 2030, with employment in the industry reaching 800,000 people. To achieve this, Kazakhstan plans to modernize the infrastructure in the country's ten main tourism destinations and improve the service quality.
Kazakhstan ranked 66th in the last World Economic Forum tourism ranking, an improvement of 14 positions from the previous year.
The government aims to rank among the top 50 countries for tourism development.
