Vice-Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan Ilyas Ospanov announced the measures to limit coal export from the country, media reports.
In particular, the government intends to limit coal export by road in a bid to exclude the outflow of public coal.
"The government is currently working on granting exclusive export rights to coal mining enterprises and their affiliated trading companies,"
Ilyas Ospanov said at a Government meeting.
The order to restrict coal export by road for six months was introduced in May 2023.
"Local executive bodies need to work together with regulatory authorities to work out a number of measures to strengthen preparations for the heating season,"
Ilyas Ospanov added.
Kazakhstan also intends to limit coal export from the country by rail.
Earlier, Daryo reported that neighboring Kyrgyzstan exported 540,200 tons of coal worth $21.8mn in the first half of 2023, with most going to Uzbekistan (390,000 tons), followed by Romania (64,500 tons) and the Netherlands (32,700 tons).
