Kyrgyzstan exported 540,200 tons of coal worth $21.8mn over the first six months of 2023.
As per the National Statistical Committee, most of the coal went to Uzbekistan (390,000 tons), with Romania (64,500 tons) and the Netherlands (32,7000 tons) also receiving significant amounts.
In 2022, Kyrgyzstan exported 702,200 tons of hard coal for $26.8mn and 796,100 tons of brown coal for $24mn.
Most of the hard coal was exported to Uzbekistan, Romania, and Poland, while the lion's share of the brown coal was shipped to Uzbekistan, China, and Pakistan.
The majority of Kyrgyzstan's coal reserves are concentrated within the southern region, specifically in the vicinity of Kara-Keche. This particular mine is capable of producing around 100,000 tons of coal on an annual basis.
