Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov addressed reducing the retirement age of miners in Kazakhstan during a meeting with relatives of deceased miners at the "Kazakhstan" mine in the Karaganda region.
Smailov mentioned that the country has been discussing lowering the retirement age for miners and those in hazardous industries for years.
'We have developed a bill and held expert-level discussions. On September 1, we will introduce it at the beginning of the Parliamentary session. The law is expected to be adopted during the fall session and will be effective from January 1, 2024. The new law will allow early retirement at the age of 55 for those working in hazardous industries, such as miners, instead of the current age of 63', he said.
On August 17, a fire broke out in the conveyor belt of the coal gradient D6 (horizon - 170 m), resulting in the death of at least five workers. A criminal case was opened for a mine fire that caused fatalities due to safety negligence.
