On August 18, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree to promote the growth of Uzbekistan's fisheries, according to the Ministry of Justice. From October 1, state-owned natural reservoirs will be available for online auction, granting entrepreneurs the right to engage in commercial breeding and fishing activities.
Additionally, non-agricultural plots around the reservoirs and rivers will be leased for services like sports and amateur fishing, fish dish trading, catering, water activities, and tourism.
Starting in January 2024, unsecured loans of up to UZS 50mn (nearly $4,150.75) will be granted to the public and businesses for fish farming projects under family entrepreneurship programs.
The President announced this move back in April.
In the coming year, the goal is to increase fish production to 900,000 tons, with over 510,000 tons coming from intensive farms in artificial reservoirs. It is expected that 9,000 households will engage in fish farming.
