Uzbekistan's Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a comprehensive national action plan to increase resilience to natural disasters and climate change from 2023 to 2030.
The plan addresses earthquakes, landslides and rockfalls, strong winds, avalanches, drought, mudslides, floods, natural fires, and technogenic risks related to natural phenomena.
The main goal is to develop measures that enhance resilience to these challenges by developing new legislation, republican and regional strategies, and strengthening the involvement and accountability of local authorities.
The plan also aims to identify and evaluate natural disaster risks, raise public awareness, and attract public and private investments, including PPP-based production of emergency rescue and other specialized equipment.
The National Action Plan's Roadmap outlines 26 key initiatives for its implementation.
Earlier, Daryo reported that senators expressed their worries about the depletion of trees in Zarafshan National Natural Park caused by the unlawful sand and gravel extraction on the Akdarya and Karadarya rivers, leading to a decline in groundwater levels.
