During 1Q 2023, Uzbekistan procured 1.5mn mobile phones from international sources, amounting to a value of $107.5mn, the Statistics Agency reports.
During this period, China emerged as the primary source, contributing 1.2mn mobile phones, followed by Vietnam with 148,800 units, and India with 14,200 units.
The breakdown of mobile phone imports by countries is as follows:
- Kazakhstan: 2,400 units
- Taiwan: 1,600 units
- Turkey: 1,900 units
- Other countries: 1,400 units
In the period of January to November 2022, Uzbekistan imported 2.7mn mobile phones valued at $181.6mn. The majority of these (2.1mn) were supplied by China. As of January 1, 2023, the count of mobile communication subscribers in Uzbekistan stood at approximately 32mn.
The overall imports of manufactured goods to Uzbekistan constituted 17.3% of total imports during the first five months of 2023.
