The Nemolchi.uz project in Uzbekistan has revealed that a school psychologist who sexually assaulted middle school students has been released from custody ahead of schedule and has returned to his pedagogical activities.
In 2022, there was a case against the psychologist Azad Eldarovich Gasanov from School №158 in Tashkent. He assaulted middle school students and was sentenced to 2 years in prison with a ban on teaching.
However, after 3 months, his sentence was commuted to corrective labor, and in May, he was completely released from it. Recently, Gasanov's right to engage in pedagogical activities has been reinstated.
Chronology of Gasanov's Sentence Reduction:
- On August 19, 2022, the Mirabad District Criminal Court sentenced Azad Gasanov to 2 years of imprisonment with a 2-year ban on pedagogical activities.
- On October 28, 2022, the Akhangaran City Criminal Court, just 3 months after the initial verdict (August 19, 2022), commuted Gasanov's remaining sentence (1 year 5 months 28 days) of imprisonment to corrective labor for the same period.
- On May 26, 2023, the Mirzo-Ulugbek District Criminal Court released Azad Gasanov from the remaining sentence of 1 year 10 days of corrective labor, due to reaching retirement age.
As of July 18, 2023, the only remaining part of Gasanov's sentence was a 1 year 3 months 10 days ban on pedagogical activities. However, Gasanov appealed to the court to be conditionally released from this punishment.
On August 4, 2023, the Mirzo-Ulugbek District Court, with Judge Kayumov B.E. presiding and the involvement of the senior assistant prosecutor of the Mirzo-Ulugbek district Yunusov F., reviewed the application, heard the opinions of the senior assistant prosecutor and Gasanov himself, and deemed the application justified and worthy of satisfaction.
Judge Kayumov granted Gasanov's request. He was conditionally released from further serving the sentence of a ban on engaging in pedagogical activities for the remaining period of 1 year 3 months 10 days.
Gasanov is now allowed to continue working with children in educational institutions and privately.
On May 2, local sources reported that a 15-year-old son of the director of Kindergarten № 230 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, is suspected of sexually harassing four kindergarten pupils. The parents of four 6-year-old girls filed a complaint stating that during naptime, the son of the kindergarten's headmistress assaulted their children. The 15-year-old boy undressed the girls and touched them in various places.
On August 8, a video circulated on social media showing an elderly man forcibly kissing 8-year-old girl on the lips.
"This incident occurred in a crowded place during rush hour, and aside from a subscriber and the girls standing nearby, no one paid attention to them," stated the Nemolchi.uz project.
Local law enforcement authorities also noted that the parents of the girl did not report the incident to the police department.
According to a report by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, every fourth child is subjected to some form of violence at home. Specifically, 25% of children are regularly subjected to physical violence, with 4% of them experiencing particularly severe disciplinary methods.
Furthermore, 31% employ various forms of punishment on their children. Additionally, 60% of respondents in Uzbekistan reported instances of psychological pressure, including humiliation, sharp criticism, and insults.
The report also highlights the fact that children raised in households where physical force was a common disciplinary approach tend to employ the same methods of discipline on their own children in the future.
