Arman Aitmagambetov, Chief of the Local Police Service Department in Astana, revealed at a briefing that road accidents in Kazakhstan's capital have risen by 9.8% since the advent of 2023, media reports.
This increase can be attributed to several factors, such as the daily influx of up to 55,000 vehicles into the city and a significant increase in registered vehicles - 75,997 units.
The carelessness of drivers and pedestrians has contributed to the problem, with one in every four accidents caused by pedestrians.
An annual event called "Attention - children!" will be held in September to address the issue of injuries to children on the roads.
Police officers recommend that parents study a safe route with their child from home to school and back, emphasizing passing through the roadway and unlit areas of courtyards.
Aitmagambetov also noted that over 100,000 traffic rule violations have been detected by police officers in the capital since the beginning of 2023, and more than half of incidents with injuries to children occurred when crossing the roadway in unidentified places and at a forbidding traffic light signal.
Earlier, Daryo reported that the primary objective of the Uzbekistan-2030 Strategy is to reduce the frequency of severe road accidents by at least 50% by the year 2030. With a target of decreasing accidents by 10%, the strategy aims to achieve this goal by 2024.
