Kazakhstan and Abu Dhabi Ports are on the brink of forming a strategic partnership that could revolutionize trade routes and boost the export of Kazakhstani goods to the markets of the Persian Gulf countries, the Middle East, Pakistan, India, and the East African coast. The collaboration was the focus of discussions between Serik Zhumangarin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, and Davood Tafti, the Head of Simatech Shipping & Forwarding, a subsidiary of the DP World Group.
The primary objective of this proposed joint venture is to establish the shortest direct route for transporting agricultural products from the Kazakhstani port of Kuryk to the Persian Gulf countries, leveraging the ports of Amirabad and Bandar Abbas in Iran. By creating this new trade corridor, unprecedented opportunities are anticipated for Kazakhstani exporters, potentially streamlining their access to key markets.
At the heart of this collaboration is the intention to significantly reduce shipping durations. The plan involves utilizing the Simatech Shipping & Forwarding expanding fleet, which already includes a fleet of ships and plans for further expansion, along with the crucial ports of Kuryk in Kazakhstan and Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates. This concerted effort aims to expedite trade across Iran in a mere 2 to 3 days, a drastic improvement over current shipping timelines.
The groundwork for this venture was laid in April 2023 when an agreement was signed during the visit of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan to Iran. This agreement encompassed the development of transportation links between the ports of Kuryk and Amirabad, in addition to the construction of grain terminals, indicating a strong commitment to facilitating seamless trade operations between the two nations.
Simatech Shipping & Forwarding has established itself as a prominent maritime management company within the Persian Gulf region, boasting an extensive fleet and active involvement in shipping goods from Iran to various destinations including Arab countries, India, Africa, and China. Their participation in commercial ports and terminals across multiple nations underscores their dedication to enhancing international trade networks.
While discussions are ongoing, the potential benefits of this joint venture are promising for both nations involved. If successfully executed, this initiative could not only catalyze economic growth in Kazakhstan through expanded export opportunities but also solidify Abu Dhabi Ports' position as a crucial hub for international trade, further integrating the region into the global economy.
