On August 8, Tengrinews has reported an update on the average monthly salary in Kazakhstan, citing data from the National Bureau of Statistics. The current period's arithmetic average nominal salary stands at 365,502 tenge (approximately $820), representing a notable increase compared to the second quarter of 2023, where the average salary was 240,779 tenge (about $540). The growth is substantial, with a 17.1 % rise (excluding inflation) and a 1.2 % increase in real terms (including inflation) when compared to the corresponding quarter in 2022.
The sectors that experienced the most significant rise in average monthly wages compared to the second quarter of 2022 are as follows:
- Information and communication: 36 % increase
- Transport and storage: 24.6 % increase
- Agriculture, forestry, and fishing: 23.7 % increase
- Wholesale and retail trade, repair of cars and motorcycles: 21.8 % increase
- Education: 10.2 % increase
- Healthcare and social services: 15.6 % increase
However, there are regions where a decline in wage levels has been observed. In real terms, compared to the corresponding quarter of 2022, the construction sector witnessed a decrease of 3.5 %, the provision of accommodation and catering services experienced a 2.6 % decline, education saw a reduction of 4.8 %, and health and social services decreased by 0.1 %.
