Tashkent International Airport in Uzbekistan has experienced a remarkable upswing in passenger traffic during the first half of the year, with a nearly 40% increase compared to the previous year, the press service of Uzbekistan Airports reported. The airport saw a surge in passenger flow, totaling 4.7 mn people, indicating a 35% rise. The capital's airport alone witnessed a 40% increase, reaching 3 mn passengers. Moreover, the projection for the year's end anticipates an additional 4.5 mn passengers.
The growing passenger numbers can be attributed to the expansion of airlines operating in local airports, now totaling 59, including 7 resident companies. The surge in activity has also led to significant infrastructure upgrades, with modernization plans in place for several airports across the country, including Bukhara, Urgench, and Namangan.
Uzbekistan's commitment to aviation development is further evidenced by the collaboration with experts from Singapore's Changi airport on the Tashkent airport project. This partnership exemplifies a dedication to enhancing airport services, facilities, and operations.
The Ministry of Transport's announcement of four new airlines and the re-establishment of two others emphasises the ongoing efforts to enrich the aviation landscape. The emergence of these carriers, combined with the expansion of flight options and modernization initiatives, underscores Uzbekistan's dedication to fostering a robust and dynamic aviation sector.
