Legislators in Uzbekistan are working on a document to protect citizens from dishonest developers in joint construction projects, Prime Minister's press secretary Bekzod Khidoyatov has reported.
The aim is to safeguard the rights of natural and legal persons involved in shared construction, ensure that funds are used appropriately, and prevent fraud and theft. Relevant ministries and departments are reviewing the draft document.
This decision comes after an increase in the misuse of citizens' funds for residential home construction through equity participation.
The government is also working to address the issue of shareholders deceived by Asia Invest Favorit while trying to buy housing in the "Izzat" complex in the Yashnabad district of Tashkent. The damage is estimated at UZS 300bn (nearly $25.9mn).
The Prime Minister, Abdulla Aripov, met with deceived shareholders on July 21, and another meeting was held on August 5. The government has suggested several options to address the situation.
Previously, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced a moratorium on construction in Tashkent.
