The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution aimed at advancing interfaith dialogue, as announced by the official spokesperson for the session, Polina Kubiak.
The resolution strongly condemns and considers any acts of violence or insults against sacred texts as a violation of international law. This move is intended to foster dialogue and counter the incitement of hatred.
The document includes a formulation in which UN member states "strongly condemn attacks against individuals based on religious motives, as well as any actions directed against religious symbols, sacred texts, houses, enterprises, property, schools, and cultural centers; in violation of international law."
Although Spain proposed the removal of the mention of violating international law from the resolution, this suggestion was rejected by other countries.
Polina Kubiak emphasized that the resolution was adopted unanimously and highlighted that it marks the first time the significance of religious symbols and sacred texts has been mentioned in the text.
