The distress signal was raised shortly after midnight, 30 km north of the Dutch island of Ameland. The suspected source of the fire was an electric car, as stated by a representative of the kingdom's coast guard in an interview with the national TV channel NOS.
Rescue teams are attempting to contain the fire, stabilize the ship, and prevent its sinking, which could lead to an environmental catastrophe.
