President Sadyr Japarov commented on his nephew Ulan Japarov's arrest on corruption charges, Kabar.kg has reported.
According to the president, times have changed, and everyone should be treated equally.
"If you are involved in corruption, you will be arrested regardless of who you are. You will pay twice for the damage caused to the state and then be released. If you don't pay, you will continue to stay in custody. If he wasn't arrested just because he is my nephew, then other relatives of mine would interfere. Kyrgyz people have a saying: 'Punishment for one, a lesson for thousands," Japarov said.
Earlier, it was reported that Ulan Japarov, the nephew of the head of state, was arrested on suspicion of corruption. He is the son of the president's cousin. A case under the "Corruption" article of the Criminal Code has been initiated against Ulan Japarov. The case is being investigated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs' investigative service. He has been placed in Bishkek's SIZO-1.
