A terrifying incident occurred on July 22 when a deck collapsed at the Briarwood Country Club, leaving up to 25 people injured, as per reports from the Billings Police Department.
Emergency services were alerted to the catastrophe at approximately 7:50 p.m. and rushed to the 3400 block of Briarwood Boulevard in Billings to provide immediate assistance.
Although there were no fatalities reported, numerous individuals suffered injuries of varying degrees. Billings Police Lt. Matt Lennick confirmed the severity of the situation, stating that "multiple individuals" were hurt and required transportation to local hospitals.
The injured victims were promptly taken to nearby medical facilities, including the Billings Clinic and St. Vincent Healthcare. Police took swift action to clear access routes to the hospitals to ensure efficient medical attention. According to KTVQ, up to 25 people were transported to hospitals, but the number might change as more details emerge.
Dr. Clint Seger, CEO of the Billings Clinic, issued a statement saying that the hospital had received six patients and was preparing for the arrival of three more. An additional official from the clinic stated that a total of 11 victims had been admitted for treatment.
The medical staff at the Billings Clinic, including trauma surgeons, emergency room physicians, and critical care personnel, were on high alert to provide immediate and comprehensive care to the injured.
“We have multiple trauma surgeons, ER physicians, and the ER team along with critical care staff on-site receiving patients,” Seger said.
The Briarwood Country Club, established in 1984, is a popular recreational facility in the area, offering amenities such as golf, dining, and swimming. The cause of the deck collapse is yet to be determined, and authorities are likely to launch an investigation into the incident to ascertain the factors that led to the structure's failure.
