President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has instructed the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to thoroughly investigate the murder of a five-year-old girl in the Saryogash district of the Turkestan region, Akorda reports.
The incident came to light on social media on the night of July 13, with reports stating that a girl was brutally killed in the village of Jibek Joli. The police arrested a man living nearby as a suspect, and there were indications of a possible sexual assault.
Local residents demanded to take matters into their own hands, but law enforcement authorities successfully took the suspect into custody before any vigilante action could occur. Subsequently, it was reported that a woman had contacted the local police station on July 13, reporting her child missing. During the search operations conducted by law enforcement agencies, the body of a girl with injuries was discovered in the suspect's house.
Some details of the incident were told by the girl's brother Ergali Erezhepov. He says that his sister was killed with particular cruelty. Multiple bruises and cuts were found on the child's body. The heartbroken family assures that the suspect in the brutal crime had accomplices.
"She was all bruised, especially her face. In addition, there were knife wounds. Apparently, the people who abducted her brutally stabbed her so that she wouldn't scream. I still can't figure out how they could do that to a child. We want all those involved to suffer severe punishment and investigate the case fairly," - said the brother of the deceased girl, Ergali Erezhepov.
He said that the sister disappeared on July 13 closer to one in the afternoon. Upon learning of her disappearance, the mother immediately contacted the police with a statement. Almost all residents of the village of Zhibek Zholy joined in search of the baby. The suspect in the shocking crime was identified by fellow villagers. The girl's body was found on the territory of the suspect's house.
"We were looking for her with the whole village practically. We watched the recordings from CCTV cameras and noticed that the girl did not go far, she was about 10 meters from her house. Then we went into the suspect's house and found her dress there. Before that, we went there three times but did not find anything much. The third time we started searching inside his house. Then at one point, I noticed slate on the roof of the barn. My friend and I climbed onto the roof and saw the girl's body without clothes," - Yerzhan Akhmetov, a resident of the village of Zhibek Zholy, shared the details of the search for the girl.
The case is being investigated under Article 99 (Murder) of the Criminal Code, and an expert examination has been initiated. The suspect has been placed in pretrial detention, and the investigation is under the special supervision of the police department of the Turkestan region.
Details emerged about the suspect, a 48-year-old man with a criminal history, including a ten-year imprisonment for a previous murder and a recent three-year sentence for intentional grievous bodily harm. It was also revealed that he was under probation supervision.
President Tokayev expressed his concern and emphasized the need to review the legality of the suspect's recent sentence and to strengthen criminal responsibility for heinous crimes against individuals.
