A source within the national company of Kazakhstan has reported an increase of 3% in the volume of oil transportation by "KazMunayGas" during 1Q2023, with a total of 18.8mn tons.
The volume of oil transportation through trunk pipelines has also increased by 4.5%, reaching 16.7mn tons. This growth is mainly attributed to the increased flow of Kashagan oil through the "KazTransOil" system in the direction of Samara, as well as oil transportation from the Dunga and Tengiz fields to Aktau port. Despite this positive development, the company has reported a decrease in the total amount of oil transported by sea due to a decline in production in the Mediterranean Sea.
The decrease is primarily due to the diversion of supplies along alternative routes, resulting in a decrease in the amount of exports from Kazakhstan shippers.
Furthermore, as part of the five-year agreement between "KazMunayGas" and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) on oil transit on the route Aktau-Baku-Ceyhan, the first shipment of 90,000 tons of oil was sent from the Turkish port of Ceyhan to the Romanian port of Constanta for unloading for Petromidia. This shipment was made in April 2023 and is in line with the annual volume of 1.5mn tons agreed upon in the deal signed the previous year.
Finally, it was reported that JSC "KazTransOil" exported 347,100 tons of oil from the Tengiz field to the port of Aktau on the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline in 2Q2023. This is a significant increase of 18 times higher than in 1Q2023, when only 19,200 tons of oil were shipped from the Tengiz field.
