French Minister of Economy, Finance, Industry, and Digital Sovereignty, Bruno Le Maire, has revealed that the ongoing unrest in France since June 27 has resulted in the burning and looting of over 1,000 shops and more than 200 shopping malls.
During an interview with BFMTV, the minister stated that the riots had targeted 250 bank offices, 450 tobacco shops, 200 shopping centers, and over 1,000 individual stores.
To assist entrepreneurs affected by the unrest, the French government has implemented measures allowing for the delayed payment of social and tax obligations. Additionally, efforts are being made to support entrepreneurs in resolving issues related to insurance companies.
Earlier reports indicated that over 70 individuals involved in the riots had been arrested by French police.
The riots initially erupted in the suburbs of Paris on the night of June 28 and subsequently spread throughout the country. The unrest was triggered by an incident in which a 17-year-old teenager driving a car refused to comply with a police officer's request to stop and was fatally shot.
Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. The police officer responsible for the shooting has been arrested and is facing charges of premeditated murder.
