The deteriorating health condition of former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili has raised concerns in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has taken action by demanding that the Georgian ambassador leave Ukraine within 48 hours and engage in consultations with the Georgian government regarding Saakashvili's fate. Saakashvili, who holds Ukrainian citizenship, has seen a sharp decline in his health following a 50-day hunger strike to protest his prosecution.
President Zelensky has reiterated his call for the Georgian authorities to transfer Saakashvili to Ukraine for necessary treatment and care. The Ukrainian government has been consistently urging Georgia to address the situation and facilitate Saakashvili's return. Efforts have been made by Ukraine's partners to explore potential solutions, but the situation remains unresolved.

Saakashvili was arrested in October 2021 upon his arrival in Georgia and faces multiple charges related to the persecution of opposition figures and the abuse of power. Saakashvili maintains that these accusations are politically motivated, and his hunger strikes have been a form of protest during his time in detention.
