Kazakhstan's Deputy Foreign Minister Roman Vassilenko held a meeting with a delegation from the Council of Europe (CoE) led by Claus Neukirch, Director of Program Coordination, to discuss potential cooperation between the two entities. The meeting, which took place on June 27, was attended by diplomats from the European Union (EU) and CoE member states.
The primary focus of the discussions was Kazakhstan's efforts to join CoE conventions aimed at combating corruption, cybercrime, and domestic violence. Deputy Foreign Minister Vassilenko highlighted the political reforms initiated by president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, which have ushered in a new era of development in Kazakhstan and provided a strong foundation for democratic transformation.
Kazakhstan expressed a keen interest in enhancing collaboration with the CoE, an organization dedicated to promoting democratic processes, protecting human rights, and upholding the rule of law.
Claus Neukirch shared the outcomes of the Second Regional Steering Committee Meeting of the CoE and EU joint program, "The Rule of Law in Central Asia for 2020-2023." The meeting, held in Astana on June 26-27, aimed to discuss and coordinate efforts to strengthen the rule of law in Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. This joint program allows all Central Asian nations willing to benefit from the CoE's expertise to participate and fulfill the conditions for cooperation outlined in the CoE's policy on neighboring regions.
Additionally, the participants discussed the implementation of CoE initiatives and projects in Kazakhstan in accordance with the agreed-upon plans. This reflects Kazakhstan's commitment to enhancing its partnership with the CoE and working collaboratively to address important regional issues.
