The Afghan prime minister's office has given the green light to a plan for the transportation of gas and oil from Turkmenistan to Pakistan, passing through Afghanistan.
"Consequently, this will result in a substantial boost in national revenue while propelling the development of Afghanistan’s transportation sector," reports Ground Zero (Pakistan).
The implementation of the project poised to facilitate a seamless flow of gas and oil from Central Asia to South Asia.
"It will provide job opportunities for our countrymen", said Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, a spokesman for the Afghanistan's Ministry of Industry and Commerce quoted by ToloNews (Afghanistan).
The first shipment of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Turkmenistan arrived in Pakistan via Afghanistan's Kandahar Province in early May.
This South Asian country is severely fuel-starved and is seeking to diversify its supplies, which previously came mostly from Iran.
Pakistan also continues to have faith in the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, construction of which began in Turkmenistan in December 2015.
This project is stuck in Afghan territory as negotiations have been renegotiated since the Taliban came to power more than a year ago.
