The Turkmen parliament has ratified the Agreement between the governments of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Türkiye on trade and economic cooperation, signed in Awaza in December 2022, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
Speaker Dunyagozel Gulmanova told in a government meeting that the law was approved at the second session of the seventh parliament.
A source in Turkmenistan's oil and gas sector told Daryo that a Memorandum of Understanding in the energy sector was also signed during in a meeting of Turkmen, Azerbaijani and Turkish Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Ilham Aliyev and Recep Erdogan in Awaza.
The document provides for the establishment of a trilateral working group to develop a road map for delivering Turkmen gas to Europe.
The geopolitically complex Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project is on the agenda. It is planned to be 300km long and have an annual capacity of 30bn cubic metres of gas.
Berdimuhamedov highlighted at the summit that diversification of energy supply routes should take into account "multilateral interests" and be based on "guarantees of reliability and security".
The Caspian states and energy competitors, Russia and Iran, have strongly opposed the project, citing environmental risks to the Caspian Sea.
