The cross of Pope Benedict XVI was stolen in Germany. The culprits broke into an exhibition cabinet in the wall of the Traunstein town church in Upper Bavaria and took the relic, Rambler reports.
Benedict XVI received his education at a gymnasium in Traunstein, where he also celebrated his first priestly ceremony.
He was elected as the Pope in 2005 and resigned from his position in February 2013. Benedict XVI became the first representative of the Roman Catholic Church to voluntarily step down from the throne in six centuries.
The priest passed away on December 31 of last year and was buried in St. Peter's Cathedral in the Vatican.
