US President Joe Biden has expressed concern over the genuine threat of Russian President Vladimir Putin using tactical nuclear weapons, Reuters reports.
He criticized Russia's deployment of such weapons in Belarus, calling Putin's actions "absolutely irresponsible." President Biden's remarks were made during a meeting with donors in California, where he drew a parallel with his previous concerns about the Colorado River drying up, which were initially met with skepticism.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko recently announced that Belarus had received tactical nuclear weapons from Russia, some of which were claimed to be three times more powerful than the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Putin confirmed the delivery of the first batch of nuclear charges to Belarus, with plans to transport the remaining weapons by the end of 2023.
This marks Russia's first deployment of short-range nuclear weapons outside its own territory since the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Additionally, Moscow has provided Belarus with a nuclear-capable Iskander missile system and assisted in adapting Belarusian aircraft for the use of special munitions. Belarusian military personnel have also received training in Russia to handle these weapons.
