The age range for individuals classified as "youth" in Kazakhstan has been extended to include those between 14 and 35 years old. As of the advent of 2023, the number of young people in the country has reached 6.05mn, an increase of over 17,000 people compared to the previous year. This accounts for almost 31% of the total population. Additionally, the total number of Kazakhstan citizens under age 35 has risen to 11.53mn, an increase of 32,500 people from the previous year. This group constitutes over 58% of the country's population.
The population of Kazakhstan is expected to grow in the coming years, with a significant increase in the number of children. Since young people require housing the most, there have been discussions about the importance of affordable housing for the population. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has emphasized this point during his speeches in Almaty, stressing that affordable housing should be accessible to every young person.
The country's largest concentration of young people can be found in Almaty, Turkestan, and Astana. These regions are home to 33.4%, 32.2%, and 34.6% of young people, respectively. Other regions, including Zhambyl, Karaganda, and Aktobe, are also leaders in the number of young people residing there. The three key megacities, Almaty, Astana, and Shymkent, have the highest proportion of young people in their populations, with Shymkent having the highest at 33.6%. Other regions with a significant concentration of young people include Mangistau and Atyrau, where young people comprise 31.7% and 31.4% of the population, respectively.
