Men were captured on the boundaries of the Korakir natural reservoir in the Bukhara region after catching 327 fish of various types with forbidden nets, the press service of the National Guard reported.
The men were apprehended during joint operations by servicemen from the Bukhara region's National Guard Department and personnel from the Peshkun district inspection of the Bukhara regional department for ecology and environmental protection.
In total, 327 different species of fish were discovered and confiscated from the poachers.
Fishing in natural water sources, such as rivers, is prohibited in all regions of the country, with the exception of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Khorezm region, from April 15 to June 1 (in the aforementioned two districts - from May 25 to June 10). However, poaching is at its highest during these times.
Documents have been prepared in this regard, and investigations are underway for poachers who caught the fish.
According to "Uzbekbaliksanoat" Association leaders, there is no criminal prosecution for poaching in Uzbekistan's legislation, and administrative methods fail to achieve the desired result. Due to a lack of legislation, tenants of natural reservoirs have little recourse against poachers.
Experts believe that the importation and use of illegal fishing items should be tightened.
