President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on June 14, inked decrees to initiate investment projects to construct solar photovoltaic power plants in the Tashkent, Bukhara, and Kashkadarya regions, media reports.
The projects entail the development of solar photoelectric power plants with a photovoltaic capacity of 400 MW in the Yukorichirik district of Tashkent, 500 MW in the Karaulbazar district of Bukhara, and 500 MW in the Nishan district of Kashkadarya.
As part of the project implementation, investment and power purchase agreements have been approved, with the respective project companies paying rent for land equal to the amount of land tax.
Currently, solar panels provide electricity to over 200,000 households in Uzbekistan. Additionally, effective May 1, 2023, high-rise buildings must install solar panels on at least 50% of available roof space, while petrol stations must cover at least 50% of their power supply and lighting with solar panels. This initiative aims to promote sustainable energy practices and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
