The face recognition system for interstate searches of wanted individuals in CIS countries has been implemented in Kyrgyzstan as of June 2, 2023, TASS reports. The system utilizes outdoor video surveillance cameras equipped with facial recognition technology.
From June 2 until June 12, a total of 57 individuals who were being sought have been successfully identified through the facial recognition system.
The information on the appearance of wanted criminals is incorporated into the system, which then analyzes and detects criminals by recognizing their facial features. Russian law enforcement agencies have contributed data on over 85,000 individuals who are internationally wanted.
Within a span of ten days, Kyrgyzstan's internal affairs bodies were able to identify and announce the whereabouts of 57 individuals who were wanted in CIS countries. The identification process relied on the utilization of external video surveillance cameras.
As a result of these efforts, four foreign citizens, including individuals from Russia and Uzbekistan, have been apprehended. Among those arrested are individuals wanted for crimes such as attempted murder, extremist offenses, hooliganism, and document forgery. Notably, some of the wanted individuals had been sought for a period of 8 to 9 years.
