In a significant victory against drug trafficking, Kyrgyzstan has witnessed the seizure of more than two tons of illicit drugs since the start of this year, 24.kg reports.
The State Service on Drug Control recently released a comprehensive assessment of its operations over the past five months. Within this period, authorities successfully uncovered 604 drug-related offenses and confiscated over two tons of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and precursors involved in illegal activities. Additionally, they conducted more than 160 initiatives dedicated to drug prevention, aiming to address the broader issue at its roots.
During a meeting, the service's management outlined various objectives aimed at curbing the smuggling of synthetic drugs, intensifying efforts to detect and dismantle drug laboratories, and disrupting the supply chain of key ingredients used in the production of illicit substances.
In light of these accomplishments, it is worth mentioning that several heads of regional departments and some service personnel faced disciplinary action due to shortcomings in organizational efficiency.
Earlier, on February 10, 2023, a man was detained in Kyrgyzstan who attempted to smuggle the drugs in his stomach.
During a stomach examination, law enforcement officials uncovered drugs concealed within latex finger gloves. The subsequent seizure resulted in the confiscation of 50 packagess, totaling 300 grams. Forensic analysis conclusively identified the substance as cocaine. It was revealed that the detainee had acquired the cocaine in Germany with the intention to sell it within Kyrgyzstan.
