Kyrgyzstan's President has announced the plan to purchase Mi-17 helicopters to enhance the country's defense capability, 24.kg reports.
"Considering the global developments, it is crucial to strengthen the national security measures of the country. To achieve this, we are planning to prioritize the procurement of military equipment and weapons, including not only Bayraktar and Pechora (anti-aircraft missile system) but also entirely new armaments. We are also planning to schedule the purchase of Mi-17 helicopters," he said.
According to Japarov, international terrorist groups pose a threat to all Central Asian countries, demanding an increase in defense capabilities. In order to improve the situation with their armed forces, they are working in cooperation with Russia.
"We cannot sit by and watch when armed aggression is committed against us, when our citizens die, when our houses and other infrastructure are destroyed and burned. We are ready to respond to any aggressor," said Japarov.
Japarov emphasized that the country's authorities are working tirelessly to increase the country's defense capabilities.
"Kyrgyzstan is a peaceful country. We do not intend to attack any other state, and we do not have such intentions. I believe that any conflict can be prevented or resolved solely through diplomacy. We implement this principle in our domestic and foreign policies. Unfortunately, there is a complicated situation in the world today. It is rapidly changing along with military-political actions not only regionally, but also globally. All this reminds us of the need to strengthen the military and state system and indicates that the threats to military security are increasing" stated the President of Kyrgyzstan.
