A tourist yacht named Hurricane caught fire in the Red Sea near the coast of Egypt, the Guardian reports. The incident occurred on Sunday, June 11, while the yacht was carrying 15 British tourists who embarked on the trip five days earlier.
Three individuals were reported missing following the fire. Egyptian rescuers were able to save 12 tourists and an equal number of crew members from the burning vessel.
A specialized search team was deployed to the sea in an effort to locate the three missing tourists. It has been suggested that the fire onboard the yacht was sparked by a short circuit. Witnesses recall the fire erupting approximately nine kilometers from the coastline.
The British Foreign Office has acknowledged the disappearance of the three individuals at an Egyptian resort and assured that they are maintaining regular communication with the authorities.
