Russia and China are set to conduct joint military exercises in the coming year, CNN reports. This information was based on a virtual meeting between the army generals of both countries.
During the video conference, the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Chinese Central Military Council, Liu Zhenli, and the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, engaged in discussions aimed at exchanging ideas and enhancing cooperation in defense matters between the two nations.
Earlier on June 6, Russia and China conducted air force exercises over the Sea of Japan. Observers view Russia as a key partner for China in its geopolitical standoff with Western powers. China has refrained from condemning the Russian aggression against Ukraine or calling for the withdrawal of Russian forces.
The trade volume between Russia and China surpassed $93.8bn in the period of January to May 2023, marking a 40.7% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the country has faced extensive sanctions from Western nations and has experienced limited access to the global economy. However, China's steadfast friendship with Russia, which transcends borders, has helped alleviate the impact of Russia's exclusion from the global financial system and has aided in reviving Russia's economic prospects.
