As per the official program in Rome, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Uzbekistan, held talks with Giorgia Meloni, the Chairman of the Italian Council of Ministers, at the Palazzo Chigi, "Daryo" correspondent in Italy reports.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her full support for the ongoing democratic and economic reforms in Uzbekistan, considering them to be irreversible and expressing confidence in their success. The leaders extensively discussed the potential for further enhancing relations in key areas.
The main objective highlighted was the expansion of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, as the volume of mutual trade and investment has already doubled in recent years. Successful implementation of industrial cooperation projects with leading Italian companies in sectors such as metallurgy, energy, and electrical engineering was acknowledged.
Recognizing the significant opportunities for practical cooperation, the parties emphasized the importance of promoting joint projects focusing on technological innovation and partnership. They also emphasized the need to encourage direct relationships between the regions of both countries.
The discussion also highlighted the considerable potential for cooperation in cultural exchange, learning the Italian language, education, and tourism. Prime Minister Meloni expressed her support for Uzbekistan's efforts in fostering a climate of partnership, good neighborliness, and trust in Central Asia while calling for further development of the "Italy-Central Asia" cooperation format.
Regarding the situation in Afghanistan, both leaders emphasized the importance of continued humanitarian aid to the Afghan people, including utilizing the logistics center in the city of Termez.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev extended an invitation to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to visit Uzbekistan.
