On June 1, Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Antonella Bassani, the vice president of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia to discuss the expansion of strategic cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Bank Group to promote socio-economic reforms in the country, the president's press service reports.
Mirziyoyev congratulated Bassani on her appointment and expressed his good wishes.
Significant progress in bilateral partnership relations was acknowledged, with Uzbekistan being a major beneficiary of the World Bank. The project portfolio has tripled and now exceeds $11bn, while the Partnership program includes projects worth $4bn until 2026.
The completion of the Country Report on Climate Change and Development was highlighted, and the launch of the "Country Platform" mechanism for coordinating practical cooperation with development institutions was mentioned.
Antonella Bassani praised the current level of cooperation and affirmed the World Bank's commitment to consistently and comprehensively support the country's reform program.
The goals for the period until 2030 were discussed, which include combating poverty, modernizing village and medium-sized city infrastructure, supporting women and youth employment, and reforming the health and education sectors.
Emphasis was also placed on green energy implementation, land reform, comprehensive regional development, and state enterprise privatization programs. The promotion of regional infrastructural projects in Central Asia was another topic of exchange.
