In an interview with Deutsche Welle, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius expressed that Ukraine has the legal right, under international law, to utilize weapons provided by Western allies to launch strikes on Russian territory.
Pistorius emphasized that if these strikes are carried out in self-defense, they can be considered justified. The German defense minister made this statement while on a trip to Asian countries. Germany is currently conducting internal investigations into the provision of weapons to Ukraine.
Pistorius clarified that while Ukraine has the right to defend itself, Germany does not want the weapons, including tanks, supplied to Kyiv to be deployed along Russia's borders. Furthermore, he mentioned that the Ukrainian authorities have not indicated any opposition to Germany's position on this matter.
The German Defense Minister expressed his complete trust in the Ukrainian partners and their ability to handle the situation responsibly.
