During an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the possibility of a future counterattack, stating that it could unfold in various scenarios.
Zelensky admitted uncertainty about the duration of the conflict, stating, "I don't know how long this will last." However, he affirmed Ukraine's determination and readiness to carry out a counterattack. He acknowledged that such an operation could come at a significant cost for Ukraine.
Furthermore, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine's future decision on counterattack would depend on receiving a clear signal at the Vilnius summit indicating Kyiv's readiness to join NATO. He stated, "If we are not given a signal in Vilnius, I believe that there is no point in Ukraine being at the summit."
The possibility of Ukraine joining NATO was one of the main reasons Putin stated to start the war in Ukraine, as it is viewed as a threat to Russia's security.
