The spokesman for the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed Russia's decision to deny accreditation to journalists from "unfriendly countries" this year, DW reports.
On the list of unfriendly countries are those that have imposed sanctions against Moscow or supported Ukraine. The current list includes all EU member states, as well as Australia, Albania, Andorra, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Canada, Liechtenstein, Micronesia, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, the Republic of Korea, San Marino, North Macedonia, Singapore, the United States, Taiwan, Ukraine, Montenegro, Switzerland, and Japan.
According to The Bell, two journalists from "major Western media outlets" were initially denied accreditation for the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 1, but they submitted a new application the next day, which reportedly was rejected. Two other prominent Western media journalists informed The Bell that they decided not to submit an application for accreditation to attend the forum this year.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is scheduled to take place from June 14 to June 17, 2023. Its topic is "Sovereign Development - The Duty of a Just World, Consolidating Strengths for Future Generations." It is noted that among the listed speakers are philosopher Alexander Dugin, actor Vladimir Mashkov, as well as pranksters Vovan and Lexus.
