Turkmenistan has the smallest population of any Central Asian country - just over 6.2m in 2022, according to the UN Population Fund (UNFPA).
The country's median age is 28 and life expectancy is 68. Turkmenistan's urban areas account for 55.1% of the total population.
The largest population in the region is Uzbekistan, with 34.3m people.Life expectancy in this country is 72 years.
Next is Kazakhstan, the most urbanised country in the region (58.6% of the urban population), with 19.2mn people - average life expectancy there is 73 years. In Tajikistan with 9.9mn and Kyrgyzstan with 6.7mn - peoples live to 71 years.
