A proposed livestock tax in Kyrgyzstan is undergoing public discussion, the Sputnik news agency reports.
The bill, introduced by Deputy Jenishbek Toktorbayev, suggests that households with more than 40 sheep and goats, three cows or bulls, and two horses would be required to pay annual taxes.
The tax rates are set at:
- $1.14 per sheep or goat
- $2.86 per head of cattle
- $2.86 per horse
The aim of the tax is to promote self-sufficiency in rural areas. However, villagers with 40-50 sheep would be exempt from the tax and only required to pay for grazing. This news primarily affects those who own a significant number of livestock, such as thousands of sheep, several dozen cows, or horses.
