In the Botken region of Kyrgyzstan, four military personnel of the Border Service were arrested and placed in a temporary detention facility while they were illegally demanding money from the citizens of Uzbekistan, this was reported by 24.kg, referring to the State Committee for National Security.
The border checkpoint officers of "Qaytpas" and "Otukchu" had systematically extorted $8-$10 from each frontier tourist by creating premediated border issues.
"Those who refused to give money were prevented from passing passport control, which forced citizens to obey the demands of border guards and give the graft. Four military officers were taken to the temporary detention center of the Botken district police station.
"A criminal case has been initiated in connection with the situation on one count of the abuse of authority," the report said.
