One of the main tasks of Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be the development of a new constitution, If he wins the second round of the presidential elections in Turkey, Erdogan informed about this in an interview with TRT Haber TV channel.
"Our biggest dream is to have a new constitution which is also one of our biggest initiatives in the new era. We want to save democracy from the constitution, which is a product of the coup era," Erdogan said.
He clarified that this issue will be assessed first within the alliance of his party (Erdoğan leads the Justice and Development Party, and is running for the presidency from the right-wing "Republican Alliance"), and then dialogue with other parties.
On May 14, the first round of presidential elections held in Turkey gave 49.24 percent of the vote to the incumbent president. His main opponent, Kemal Qilichdaroglu, received 45.07 percent sending both candidates to the second round, which will be held on May 28.
Ata party representative Sinan Agan, who won 5 percent of the votes in the first round, said he would support the current leader in the second round. Commenting on his statement, Erdogan assured that there was "absolutely no bargaining" between him and Sinan. In response to the question whether Agan has a claim to the position of vice president or minister, Erdogan said that there is no such deal.
