Abdul-Ghani Baradar, the Taliban's Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, addressed the inauguration of a dam construction project, Sputnik Afghanistan reports.
He reassured the population of Farah that the project would be completed, but requested an understanding of the challenges the Taliban faced in the republic. This comment likely stems from the fact that the project's work plan was approved nine months ago.
The dam is expected to irrigate 68,590 hectares of agricultural land through two canals, spanning 50 and 52km. It remains unclear whether the Taliban has plans to incorporate turbines, potentially transforming the dam into a hydroelectric station.
