Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Russian forces have not captured the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, "Ukrainskaya Pravda" reports.
Speaking at a press conference in Hiroshima during the G7 summit, Zelensky praised the bravery and intelligence of Ukrainian soldiers and emphasized the value they place on human life. He expressed a clear understanding of the situation in Bakhmut and the motives behind the ongoing conflict.
While unable to provide specific tactical details, Zelensky assured that the Ukrainian military is actively engaged in important tasks within the city. He unequivocally stated that Bakhmut is not under Russian control, leaving no room for alternative interpretations.
Contrary to Ukraine's stance, Russian sources, including Wagner founder Yevgeny Prigozhin, claimed that Bakhmut was fully under their control. The Russian Ministry of Defense even announced the "liberation" of the city, with President Vladimir Putin commending the military's success.
However, Ukrainian military officials refuted these claims, affirming that the fighting for Bakhmut continues. Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar reported that Ukrainian forces have gained the upper hand, capturing strategic positions and partially encircling the city. The situation remains highly contested between the conflicting parties.
