Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to personally attend the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Kyodo Japan reports.
Although earlier announcements stated that Zelensky would participate via video communication, sources from Japan and the USA have confirmed his physical presence. The exact date of Zelensky's arrival has not been disclosed for security reasons.
This visit to Hiroshima will mark Zelensky's first trip to Asia since the start of the Russian invasion. After attending the Arab League summit in Saudi Arabia, Zelensky is expected to fly to Japan aboard a US Air Force aircraft. His recent visits to Italy, Germany, France, and Great Britain have focused on securing new arms shipments for Ukraine.
The G7 summit commenced on May 19 in Hiroshima and will span three days. The participants are planning to discuss the imposition of new sanctions in response to Russia's military aggression against Ukraine.
Among the topics on the agenda is a proposal by the United States to enforce an embargo on exports to Russia, excluding essential items like medicine and food. However, this proposal did not gain support from Japan and the European Union.
