Starting December 1, 2023, a national system of early warning of strong earthquakes will be launched in Uzbekistan. The system will monitor seismic events in the Central Asian country and its border regions in real time.
If two or more seismic stations near the earthquake's epicenter detect strong vibrations (5 or higher), a quick notification will be sent to the population via the "Strong earthquake warning" mobile application in just a few seconds.
Also, beginning in the 2023/2024 academic year, proper earthquake safety guidelines will be included in the existing educational programs for general secondary, secondary special, and professional education levels.
Earlier, Daryo reported that a new seismic station had been set up in Uzbekistan's Karasai region outside Jizzakh City. The station is state-of-the-art and part of the U.S. Global Seismic Network, which includes over 150 stations worldwide.
