A recent survey conducted by Demoscope and the PaperLab research center shows that the number of Kazakhs concerned about a potential invasion by Russia has doubled in the past six months.
The survey, conducted from May 3 to May 12, 2023, included 1,100 respondents aged 18 and above. The results indicate a worsening attitude towards Russia, with 15% of Kazakhs believing in the possibility of an attack, compared to 8.3% last year.
Additionally, 23.3% acknowledge the potential under certain conditions, up from 19% in 2022. The survey also revealed that 32.6% of respondents reported a negative shift in their perception of Russia since the start of the war in Ukraine.
Among different age groups, only 0.7% of respondents aged 18-29 expressed sympathy for Russia, while the figure was 5% for those aged 40-59 and 10.8% for individuals over 60 years old.
